In Memory of Alex Birkenhead

The charity auction is to raise money for CLIC Sargent, a charity providing excellent care and support for children and young adults and their families affected by cancer, and is the charity that was very close to Alex and her family throughout her fight against Leukaemia.

Alex contracted the disease, aged 20, 6 months after giving birth to her baby daughter, Leah. She and her partner, Adam, met when they were both 17.

Alex had two main ambitions in her life - to give birth to her baby daughter and to become Mrs Birkenhead. She achieved both when they married last year, having been given just two weeks to live.

I was very lucky to be available to photograph their wedding and attend this happy occasion for all.

Sadly Alex lost her four year fight against Leukaemia on 21st October 2008 aged just 24.

Alex was an inspiration to all who knew her and met her. Her spirit and determination were matched only by her large brown eyes and her bright smile, which greeted all throughout her life.
